 Youth Classes

The Museum Art School offers gallery- and studio-based classes for youth ages 4-18. Works from the permanent collection and special exhibitions provide focus and grounding for a curriculum developed and taught by artists and art educators. Through thoughtful, sequential activities students use a wide range of media to discover their creative capacities. The Museum's resources provide an enriched environment that helps students place their own efforts in a larger cultural context. Classes fill quickly. Please register early.

Y1 Teen Portfolio: Beginning Drawing and Design

Saturdays, July 12–August 2
Ages 13–18
10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., $85/$105
Instructor: Paula Des Jardins

This class focuses on portfolio development for teens who want to explore personal vision and develop skills. Basic drawing and design techniques will be explored. Sharing work with other young artists will provide invaluable insight into individual strengths, as well as areas that deserve more attention.

Y2 Artistic Beginnings: Press and Print

Saturdays, August 9–August 30
Ages 4–6
10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., $40/50

Children are encouraged to experiment with layering different shapes and sizes for fun and surprising works of art.

Y3 Artistic Beginnings: Color Magic

Saturdays, September 6–27
Ages 4–6
10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., $40/50
Instructor: Danielle Pfeifer

Colors can trick the eye and fool the senses, and they’re always changing when surrounded by other colors. Explore the magic of color and how it transforms by making amazing abstract designs.
