The 22nd annual Axline Lecture features the renowned artist Sergio Hernández, who will be in conversation with Roxana Velásquez, Maruja Baldwin Executive Director and CEO at the Museum. Their conversation in Spanish will be simultaneously translated into English.
Oaxacan-based Sergio Hernández is among Mexico’s leading contemporary artists. Focusing on the wonders of the natural world, including native species of southern Mexico, the Pacific Ocean, and constellations of the night sky, Hernández’s works of art and his use of local materials such as cochineal tie his art-making practice to important local and Indigenous traditions. Attendees will have the option to attend in person (tickets limited) or livestream this event with either English or Spanish subtitles.

The Axline Lecture is presented annually by The San Diego Museum of Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) to recognize the extraordinary bequest by Rea and Jackie Axline to both institutions in 1999.
