Julio Le Parc saturates these renderings with bright shades of orange and brown, a color palette suggestive of the late 1970s. Explorations of the experience of light and kinetic movement, the modulation of space, and the play of dimension are hallmarks of his art. These effects are congealed in pochoirs (stencils) attentive to the precise treatment of surfaces. The works are not merely formal: in 1960, Le Parc cofounded Groupe de la Recherche d'Art Visuel (Group for Visual Art Research), whose mission endorsed stimulating the viewer's perception to encourage a more active role in society.
